<p>Laryssa has been teaching creative writing at Rutgers University since 2010. She also teaches at Passaic County and Hudson County Community Colleges. Laryssa is a Writing Center Specialist at Stevens Institute of Technology, where she helps students from freshmen crafting basic essays to PhD students submitting articles to scholarly journals. In addition, <a href="http://www.craftyourdrafts.com" target="_blank">Laryssa tutors students privately</a>.</p>
<p>When she&#8217;s not teaching, Laryssa is writing. She is a freelance food writer for <em><a href="http://www.jerseycityindependent.com" target="_blank">Jersey City Independent</a> </em>and <em>NEW</em> magazine (a print arts, culture, and lifestyle magazine based in Jersey City, NJ). She has also written for <em><a href="http://www.preservationnation.org/magazine/" target="_blank">Preservation Magazine</a></em> (the award-winning publication of the National Trust for Historic Preservation), Baltimore&#8217;s <em><a href="http://www.baltimorestyle.com/" target="_blank">Style Magazine</a></em>, and <a href="http://therumpus.net/" target="_blank">The Rumpus</a>. When she has time, she dabbles in <a href="http://www.commansentence.com" target="_blank">blogging</a>. Click on &#8220;Clips&#8221; above to read her work.</p>
<p>Laryssa studied writing at Loyola University Maryland and earned her Master of Fine Arts in creative writing at the University of Maryland (College Park), where her short story “Welcome to America” won honorable mention for the Katherine Anne Porter Prize in Fiction, judged by Joan Silber. She is currently working on a collection of short stories titled <em>The Prescribed Burn</em>.</p>
